Zo maak je een black and tan: de combi van donker bier met blond bier

Sta je aan de bar en kun je maar niet beslissen wat je wil drinken? Wil je een blond biertje of toch liever een donker bier? Dan is de black and tan de oplossing voor jou! Wat dat is en hoe je het zelf maakt, leggen wij je graag uit.

Wat is een black and tan?

Een black and tan is de combinatie van een donker bier met een blond bier. Maar het is niet gewoon een kwestie van mengen. Je moet het voorzichtig boven elkaar gieten om de twee bieren perfect van elkaar gescheiden te houden.

Zo geniet je bijvoorbeeld de eerste vijf slokken van een Guinness en de laatste vijf slokken van een Karmeliet. Ideaal voor de twijfelaars onder ons. En het ziet er nog eens heel cool uit ook.

@gamecraftbrewing & @bottlelogicbrewing did 2 collaborations together that make up 3 beers. The first is Umbeereon, a Schwarzbier dark larger that has deep rich roasted character with that clean crisp larger taste (brewed at Gamecraft), great beer one of my favorites for this style & very quaffable. The second is Jolteon, a Blonde Pastry Stout that has a sweet milk coffee profile to it, lots of mouthfeel very smooth (brewed at Bottlelogic). Then Scott (the onwer at Gamecraft) had and idea, let’s make a black and tan out of it, which was brilliant. Traditionally a black and tan is made with @guinness stout on top & Bass Pale Ale on the bottom, this is possible becauseof the different gravity’s or densities of each beer, but these breweries have turned the traditional black and tan on it’s head for that better since you now have the Schwarzbier with it’s dark clean larger on the top and the Blonde Pastry Stout with its golden delicious dessert on the bottom. It’s fun to drink and watch these beers stay seperate until the last quarter of the glass when they mix. It is a taste sensation with with a twist and a must try if I do say so my self. Cheers! ?

Eh, hoe dan?

Om de perfecte black and tan te maken giet je eerst het blonde bier in een glas. Vul het tot het glas ongeveer halfvol is. Dan heb je een speciale lepel nodig, die je over de rand van het glas hangt met de bolle kant naar boven. Als je een vaste hand hebt kan je dat ook doen met een gewone lepel. Giet voorzichtig het donkere bier over de lepel in het glas en je hebt een black and tan.

Hoewel deze traditie vaak als Iers wordt bestempeld, is het absoluut een Amerikaanse gewoonte. Ga dus nooit in Ierland een pub binnen om een black and tan te bestellen. Veel Ieren zien dit als het verpesten van bier en zullen je dus sneller negeren dan bedienen.

Niet alle bieren zullen even goed boven elkaar blijven zweven, want elk bier heeft een andere dichtheid. Dus experimenteer er op los en vind jouw favoriete combinatie. Of surf eens naar the perfect black and tan en kijk eens welke combinaties het daar goed doen.
